“On the first day of surf camp I was nervous - the breaks were maxing out and I was taking set after set on the head. Afterwards, we had a theory class where we went through the different components of surfing. “My goal for you all is to have you do roundhouse cutbacks by the end of this camp”, Jacob said, after having seen us surf. Then we went through the videos of day 1. I was feeling a bit embarrassed because I caught next to no waves yet there was no sign of disappointment from Jacob - only excitement at the potential he saw in all of us. He broke down our goals for the next day. One day at a time. The first goal was to improve paddling efficiency: Keep your feet together and focus on making the board steadier.
The next day, I caught more waves. Now the goal was to look before I took off, then look to where I was going and hold turns. On day 2 we also did some amazing dynamic yoga stretches which really helped because we were all sore from the first day.
On Day 3, I caught the first wave that came my way. The first thing I heard in my head was Jacob from day 1 - feet together and paddle super steady - check. Next look down the wave. Then I hear his voice from Day 2: Don’t just glance - look! Now I’m on the wave - then I hear the voice going - take the high line! Get some speed - so I take the high line. Next look back at the wave and hold the turn. And finally ride the whole wave, don’t stop when the section ends - keep it going right till the end. So I went!
Jacob is an amazing surfer but what’s more, he is a kind human being, and that translates to his coaching. Never once did he make me feel like I was not good enough to be in his camp (even though the others were at a higher level than me). His love of teaching and surfing meant that there were no time slots - we got in before other surf schools and stayed till no one could paddle anymore. The video analyses we did in the afternoons were very detailed and he spent at least 30 minutes per surfer, always giving us positive feedback. If you get a chance to go to his surf camp I’d definitely do it regardless of the level you’re at - your surfing will improve.”

“I had a private lesson and a 3.5 day surf clinic with Jacob in Ahangama. It was super fun and insightful. I learned a lot about my surfing, Jacob gave me clear objectives so I didn’t have too many things to be working on at any time and he took us to the best spots for our ability and the conditions. Videos are clear and good quality. Highly recommend and I’ll definitely come back.”
Surfing Levels
The main pillars we stand for is adventure and progression while exploring the more un-surfed waves on the south coast of Sri Lanka. Our plan is to create a unique coaching experience with exploration at the heart of what we do.
It’s much easier to improve your skills by keeping up your wave count - knowing your current level is key so that we can find the best waves for you to help you progress.
Intermediate
Intermediate surfers can ride along the wave but are still refining their skills. They exhibit independence in the line-up and are actively working on improving their manoeuvres, such as bottom turns and cutbacks.
Look for Intermediate surf clinics
Intermediate+
Intermediate+ surfers are completely comfortable in the line-up, even when it's not crowded or during slightly larger waves. They have mastered basics like duck diving and understand surf etiquette. They have a solid foundation in all aspects of surfing.
Look for Intermediate+ surf clinics
Advanced
Advanced surfers are ready to elevate their surfing to the next level. They seek to challenge themselves by tackling bigger waves and mastering advanced manoeuvres, such as aerials and barrels. They have a deep understanding of wave dynamics and are continuously pushing their limits to improve their skills.
Look for Advanced surf clinics or ask about private surf coaching.
Advanced+
Advanced+ surfers bring their personality to the wave. They are comfortable in all conditions, not afraid to explore the limits, and are very focused on being the best surfer they can be. They are potentially seeking sponsorships for surfing or aspiring to surf in international events.
